Spinal Implants

What material is cervical plate?
Our anterial cervical plates(ACPs) are made of Titanium Alloy material. The advantage of alloy material are superior strength-to-weight ratio, excellent biocompatibility, and resistance to corrosion.
During 1970s-1980s, Stainless steel and Vitallium (cobalt-chromium alloy) were polular. However, stainless steel was concerned about its corrosion and limited biocompatibility. And Vitallium’s susceptibility was stress fractures and difficulty in shaping. They both have been not used anymore now.
Where is the plate in ACDF surgery?
In ACDF (Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion) surgery, the plate is positioned on the anterior side of the cervical spine. Specifically it is located between the vertebral bodies of the affected vertebrae.
